About Old Church Farm
In the grounds of the ancient Sussex farmstead of Old Church Farm, Guestling, next to the Norman Church, are three characterful rental cottages: The Granary, The Dairy and Provender.
This idyllic farmstead lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Rye and Hastings, two miles to the sea, on the 1066 Country Walk and amidst wonderful countryside. The welcoming local pub in Pett is a 15-minute walk away through the Woodland Trust’s Guestling Wood in the next field. Surrounding fields and woods offer miles of easy walking. The cottages have total privacy, parking and secluded private gardens, and are set within approx. 3 acres of parkland, orchard and ponds overlooking rolling countryside.
The farmhouse dates from around 1540 and was once owned by the Sackville family. In earlier times the Cinque Ports’ commercial court was held here, which was known in consequence as “The Guestling”.
This tranquil rural retreat is sheltered by undulating hills and ancient woodland. Wildlife abounds: rabbits, badgers, ducks, moorhens, pheasants and many species of bird. With the flint Norman Church to one side and uninterrupted distant rural views to the other, the location of these stylish Sussex cottages is very special, secluded and quiet. Yet only two miles away in Ore, there is an Aldi, Tesco Express, Co-op, chemist and fast-food outlets.
The area around Old Church Farm has an exceptional number of ancient pubs and hostelries, many with CAMRA awards, serving good local food.
Facilities
Facilities at the cottages include parking, fast wi-fi (not Provender), TV, DVD, library of books and DVDs, microwave, hairdryer, facilities for clothes drying, electric stoves, boot storage and picnic hampers and rugs. A comprehensive information pack is supplied at each cottage. The Dairy and Provender have disabled access. All linen is provided. Cot and babysitting available on request. All cooking and heating by electricity. Indoor and outdoor games available. There is a barbeque area, a Chimenea available on request and a selection of seating areas around the grounds. A small wooden gate leads directly into the fields, which are not grazed.
The Sussex countryside here is rich in variety and beauty. From the nearby Country Park at Fairlight there are gorgeous clifftop walks and views of France on a clear day. Pett Level Beach with its prehistoric sunken forest provides around two miles of shingle and sand. Miles of sand and dunes at Camber, the bird and nature sanctuary at Rye Harbour, mysterious Romney Marsh, fascinating Rye and Winchelsea and bohemian Hastings – the choice within a very few miles is amazing.
